David Kershaw
David Kershaw practices as a part of Riley Pope and Laney’s Default Services and Litigation practice groups. He joined Riley Pope & Laney in May of 2024, after an extensive career in the financial services industry.
David began his legal career as a judicial law clerk in the Richland County Probate Court. Thereafter, David served as a judicial law clerk in the Bankruptcy Court for the District of South Carolina. After completing his clerkships, David worked in regional and national law firms where his practices focused in the areas of Bankruptcy, Foreclosures, Asset Recovery, and Commercial and General Litigation. In 2020, David transitioned to a position as Vice President and Legal Counsel for Unity Community Bank (now known as “United Community”), where he aided and advised the Loss Mitigation, Bankruptcy, Asset Recovery, Probate, Foreclosure, and SBA Departments in their efforts to recover upon defaulted consumer and commercial loans.
David is a 2011 graduate of South Carolina State University, where he was a leader in the “Marching 10”1 Band. David is also a 2015 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and a recipient of the Compleat Lawyer Award, one of the highest awards given to only three law school graduates per year in recognition of their outstanding scholastic, civic and professional accomplishments.
David currently resides in Columbia, South Carolina, and practices as a member of the South Carolina Bar and the North Carolina Bar.
