Legal Assistant, Columbia, SC
Riley, Pope and Laney is seeking an entry-level legal assistant to fill a full-time, on-site position in our Columbia, South Carolina office. The legal assistant will be responsible for a wide range of tasks to support the paralegals and attorneys. This position is a great fit for a recent college graduate or someone nearing graduation who is hoping to enter the legal field and someday attend law school. The ideal candidate will be a team player, detail-oriented, organized, flexible, self-motivated, self-managed and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position requires a basic knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn client websites and Case Management Software.
Duties include, but not limited to
- Preparing pleadings
- Preparing Letters
- Processing filed complaints and service affidavits
- Updating client websites
- Communicating with clients and process servers
- Miscellaneous duties as needed

Mailroom Assistant, Columbia, SC
Riley, Pope and Laney is seeking a Mailroom Assistant to fill a part-time on-site position in our Columbia, SC office. This position will be approximately 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm (we are willing to review candidates with availability outside of these hours, however, based on office needs, the candidate must be available during the hours of 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm). Our firm encourages students to apply; for someone interested in pursuing a legal career, this position is a good introduction to a law office. Some of our past mailroom assistants have been promoted to other positions in the firm and others have pursued law degrees. The ideal candidate will be a team player, detail-oriented, organized, flexible, self-motivated, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The person in this position will be responsible for taking mail to the post office daily and therefore a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. This position requires a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Operating System, and the ability to learn Case Management Software.
Duties include, but not limited to
- Prepare and send outgoing mail, including letters, packages, and parcels, ensuring accurate addressing and proper postage
- Saving all outgoing mail to digital filing system
- Maintain mailroom inventory, including stamps, envelopes, and other supplies, and restock as needed
- Operate various mailroom equipment, such as postage meter, printer, and copier with care and precision
- Enter dates and postage amounts into Case Management and Accounting Software
- Miscellaneous duties as needed
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Operating System
- Ability to lift and move packages up to 25 lbs.
Administrative/Legal Assistant, Matthews, NC
Riley, Pope and Laney has an immediate opening for an administrative assistant to fill a full-time on-site position in our Matthews, NC office. The ideal candidate will be a team player, detail-oriented, organized, flexible, self-motivated, self-managed, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and eager to develop their legal office skills in fast-paced legal environment. The position requires a basic knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn client websites and Case Management Software. Previous legal office experience is preferred but not required.
